My Educational Visit to the Doctor
On a recent visit to my physician, I broke with my usual routine and decided to ask some in-depth questions about the medications she was giving me.
She informed me that the injection she had just given me was called Sclerodex.
She explained to me that Scelerodex was used for the local treatment of varicose veins.
She then told me that she was giving me two prescriptions, one for Potaba and one for Dicloxacillin.
I have been having some problems with hardening patches of skin, and the Potaba would help this condition by increasing my skin’s use of oxygen, which would help make the skin more flexible, thus alleviating the dry, hardening patches.
The primary reason I made the appointment in the first place was because I had been putting up with a severe case of sinus congestion for days.
My doctor told me that I was suffering from a sinus infection, and that is why she was prescribing Dicloxacillin.
Effective in treating a wide variety of bacterial infections, which was what was causing my sinus problems, Dicloxacillin works by stopping the growth of bacteria, although it is not effective for viral infections, such as the common cold or the flu.
She also cautioned me to be sure to take the medication until the prescribed amount was finished, as failing to do so would lead to a return of my symptoms.
Having had quite enough of spending my days with a stuffed-up nose, I promised her that I would do exactly that, thanked her for the information she had given me, and took my leave.
And I must admit that I was rather proud of myself for now being a much-better informed patient.
