We’re big fans of Aku’s range of acupressure products after thoroughly testing both the Aku Mat and Aku Ball.
(In fact, we’re huge advocates of acupressure therapy in general!)
Aku often state how amazing their acupressure ball is for arthritis and Raynaud’s syndrome.
We wanted to discover the truth for ourselves by speaking to Helen Lee who lives with both conditions to understand how the Aku Ball has helped to manage her condition.
Over to Helen…
My Diagnosis
I was diagnosed with both rheumatoid arthritis and Raynaud’s syndrome four years ago, after experiencing intense pain and swelling in my hands.
Though initially I explored using medication, I was skeptical about its impact and found the associated side effects difficult to live with.
At times it has been the right option for me but other times I’ve looked for alternative ways to manage my pain.
Exploring Alternative Therapies
TENS therapy has proven to be a great pain management tool for me, I use it when the pain is at its worst, which is typically in the evening after a busy day.
CBD creams and using a wax bath have also helped to bring down the swelling.
However all these treatments require a bit of preparation, and I wanted a tool I could just pick up that would offer instant pain relief.

Discovering the Aku Ball
I’d read about the Aku Ball on social media, and was keen to give it a try.
The packaging really appealed to me, I know it’s not a massively important factor, but I love the trendy colours!
When I first opened the box, my initial thought was “this looks very sharp and painful” however as soon as I started handling it, I found it was the total opposite!
Firstly, it doesn’t hurt to hold.
You get the most amazing sensation, it’s kind of tingly and warm. I instantly found it so soothing…

It feels so well made too, you can tell it’s a good quality product.
Using the Aku Ball Day to Day
I now use the Aku Ball every day, especially in the morning and evening when my pain and stiffness is at its worst.
Picking it up and just using it whenever I need it, has to be one of the biggest benefits.
If like me you experience chronic pain then you’ll find it extremely satisfying and the results are instant.
It adds warmth to my hands that is incredibly comforting.
I also roll it up my arms and around my shoulders, neck and up the back of my head, as I enjoy the sensation.

When I’ve told people about the Aku Ball, they’ve asked if it’s simply a distraction rather than having an impact on my pain.
I don’t really mind which it is — it works for me and when you’re living with chronic pain sometimes a distraction is exactly what you need.

Recommending the Aku Ball for Arthritis
I think it’s a superb little gadget for people looking for alternative ways to manage their condition or those who can’t tolerate medication.
The only way you could improve it is by having the option of a bigger ball, to make it easier to handle.
Overall though it offers really good value for money, especially when you compare it to the cost of other gadgets I’ve had to buy like special utensils and gardening tools.
Would I recommend the Aku Ball for those suffering with arthritis in the hands?
Yes, go for it! It has been a game changer for my arthritis.
